Process Design

It all starts with a need to optimize IT management processes. In this day and age mostly all modern companies are IT companies. And IT must be managed as any other business area using modern, proven and effective management practices and standards. This realization usually drives our customers to optimize and make their IT management effective.

So where to start? With all available IT management tools, standards, frameworks and approaches to IT management it might be overwhelming for even experienced IT managers to choose the right path. This is where Synergy team can help.

While planning and designing IT management processes our suggestion is quite pragmatic:

- Plan on iterative corrections with quick wins

- Use common sense while choosing requirements from various frameworks or standards

Process Implementation

When you have identified painful areas, planned on their mitigation and designed necessary IT management processes, it is time to implement them. This is where ITSM tools come in handy. There is various commercial off-the-shelf software available and you can even build your own tool for IT management. In any case, do research before choosing a tool. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, and we suggest using reputable market analysis reviews (e.g. Gartner Magic Quadrant for ITSM), for making your decisions.

While implementing IT management processes our suggestion is quite pragmatic:

- Make a decision on ITSM tool to be used before doing any IT process design

- Implement processes in iterative manner. No big bags!

- Do not try to solve unconfirmed, “might be” problems

- Do not try to automate exceptions or unstandardized activities.

- Plan enough „getting used to new things“ time between separate process implementations

- Do not rush with changes in organization
